what is a landscape report
A landscape report is a behavioral portrait of a philanthropic ecosystem including foundation activity in a specific city or state, a defined issue area, a regional network, a cohort of family foundations, a category of institutional funders. Each report is drawn from IRS filings and computed the same way we compute every organization profile in aysra: exact fields, exact citations, no invented values.
It is not a scored ranking, but it is a description of behavior: who is giving, how much, to whom, and how consistently, with every number traceable to a field on a specific filing.
why we make them
The IRS 990 corpus is public, but the pattern reading is not. Nonprofit organizations, journalists, researchers, coalitions, and funder collaboratives all need to understand ecosystem behavior, but the technical work of assembling it (parsing thousands of filings, resolving entities across years, computing consistent behavioral measures) sits outside the computational capacity of most organizations that would benefit from it.

what's in a landscape report
Every landscape report includes:
- Ecosystem scope. Which filers are in the analysis, why, and how the boundary was drawn.
- Field shape. Total giving, filer counts, size distribution, geographic reach, and rate of change.
- Behavioral patterns. Grant concentration, average and median grant sizes, renewal rates, first-time grantee rates, cross-funder overlap.
- Funder profiles. Which funders act with unusual consistency, which are retreating, which are new entrants, which are anchored to specific recipients.
- Recipient patterns. Which organizations receive the most support, which are broadly held vs concentrated, which types of recipients are gaining or losing ground.
Every measure includes a citation trail: the fields used, the filings involved, the calculation applied.
what does a landscape report cost?
Reports begin at $2,500. Starting prices reflect the number of organizations materially included in the research and the depth of analysis. Before work begins, we'll define the scope and provide a fixed quote.

Organization counts include all organizations materially analyzed, including comparison groups.
The matrix shows starting prices for standard scopes. More complex research may require a higher quote. Any difference is identified during scoping, before you commit.
our methodology
If we cannot show it in the data, we do not claim it. We use the same behavioral computation engine that powers every profile in aysra. That means:
- Every number traces to a filed field or a defined calculation on filed fields.
- Every calculation uses the same formula across every landscape report, so figures are comparable across ecosystems and across years.
- Nothing is smoothed, imputed, or estimated. Missing data is preserved as missing.
- Recipient names are normalized where evidence is strong. Uncertain matches are preserved as separate.
- Interpretive claims (e.g., "concentration is unusually high" or "funders are retreating") are anchored to the underlying numbers and marked as interpretive.
