How aysra Uses AI Models

The core principle is simple. Raw IRS data is always free on aysra, and the paid product is a layer of derived behavioral intelligence on top of it.

AI helps phrase the answer, but never decides what the answer is.

aysra is built on IRS Form 990 filings. The numbers on every page trace back to a specific line on a specific form filed in a specific year. The AI model sits on top of that data as a thin reasoning layer, not as a source of facts.

Where AI Shows Up

Keyword search is not an AI feature, and it is always free. aysra uses AI in three places.

global ask

Answers natural-language questions across the whole corpus, such as "how concentrated is youth-services funding in the Midwest?"

ask aysra button

Appears on every organization profile. You can ask factual questions about that one EIN, such as "how has their payout rate moved since 2019," and ask aysra answers from that organization's own filings. It does not pull in other organizations, and it does not speculate.

AskGrant

Lives on the ask tab of any 990-PF foundation profile. You paste a draft proposal, and AskGrant returns questions based on the funder's actual giving behavior across its last six years of filings. It does not rewrite your proposal, score it, or generate text for you to submit.

What the Model Sees

aysra currently uses Google's Gemini family for AI reasoning and summarization. What the model sees, per query, is your question text and the structured rows that aysra's database returned for that question.

What the Model is Allowed To Do

The AI model is allowed to explain, compare, and summarize values retrieved or calculated by aysra from structured IRS fields. It is not allowed to:

• speculate
• invent data
• infer a filer's motives
• rank organizations morally
• fabricate sources
• treat missing data as zero

If a value is missing from a filing, the AI is required to say so. missing data displays as "—", not as 0. A foundation that did not report a value is not the same as a foundation that reported zero, and aysra refuses to collapse the two.

How We Keep the AI Honest

Every claim aysra surfaces carries a provenance mark.

• A hollow circle (a hanko) sits next to any number pulled directly from an IRS field. Hover it and you will see the form, part, and line citation.
• An L-shaped corner mark (a kento) sits next to anything the AI generated.

Two glyphs, two contracts. A hanko never appears on AI-generated language. A kento never appears on a raw IRS number. If you ever see the wrong glyph on a value, that is a bug, and we want to hear about it.

What We Don't Do

aysra does not take actions on your behalf. It does not send emails, file applications, or call APIs at other organizations. It is a research surface, not an agent.

aysra does not generate scores, rankings of organizations by worth or quality, compatibility judgments, or predictive likelihoods of funding. There is no "good foundation, bad foundation" label, and there never will be.

Logging and Retention

Every AI call writes a row to an internal request log:

• which surface was used
• which account made the request
• which model handled it
• what it cost
• how long it took

We use these logs for billing, debugging, abuse prevention, reliability monitoring, and product quality review. We do not sell this data, ever, to anyone.

Query text may be used to improve aysra's systems, including evaluation, testing, model behavior, abuse prevention, and product quality. AskGrant proposal text may be used to generate the response you requested and to improve the safety, reliability, and quality of AskGrant. We do not use one user's query or proposal text to make claims about another user, and we do not expose one user's text in another user's session.

Operational logs are retained as long as needed for billing, security, debugging, abuse prevention, legal compliance, and product improvement. Account holders can request deletion by writing to ask@aysra.com.
