accuracy vs. curation

aysra extracts data directly from publicly available IRS Form 990 XML filings.
we do not curate, reinterpret, or override source documents.

what if something looks wrong?

if you believe something on aysra is incorrect, follow these steps.

check the original filing

we link directly to the IRS page for every filing.

if the filing matches what aysra shows, the issue is in the source document. if the filing does not match what aysra shows, the issue may be in our extraction.

if aysra extracted data incorrectly

report it via the parsing issue link at the bottom of this page. we will:

  • verify the underlying XML
  • correct any parsing error
  • reprocess affected filings
  • document the correction publicly

if the IRS filing itself contains errors

aysra reflects what was officially filed.

if the filing is incorrect:

  1. work with your accountant to file an amended return with the IRS.
  2. when the IRS publishes the amendment in its next bulk release, aysra will reflect it automatically.

we do not manually override source data.

how this works in practice

scenario 1. parsing error

issue: "you say we gave $500,000 to X, but the filing says $50,000."

review: extraction pulled the wrong element. the filing shows $50,000.

action: fix the parser, reprocess affected filings, and update the interface.

outcome: the correction is logged publicly: "corrected schedule I extraction logic in 2022 filings."

scenario 2. filing error

issue: "you say we gave $500,000 to X, but we actually gave $50,000."

review: extraction matches the filed document. the filing shows $500,000.

action: none. aysra does not override source data. an amended return must be submitted to the IRS.

outcome: aysra will reflect the corrected figure once the IRS publishes the amendment.

scenario 3. amendment timing

issue: "we filed an amendment last month but it is not showing."

review: the amendment has not yet appeared in an IRS bulk release.

action: none required. aysra reflects the most recent publicly available filing.

outcome: the amended return appears automatically once the IRS publishes it, typically 60 to 90 days after acceptance.
